Know Your Budget

Know Your budget has been active since 2017 and is a mission to change the national budget process from a complicated technical process concerning only the executive and legislative sectors of Government, into one that involves the people who the budget is meant to serve. It is crucial that the citizenry have an understanding of the Nation’s budget making process no matter their level or type of education, trade, gender, age or economic status. This enables them to productively engage their elected representatives and spotlight their priorities while also creating a space for budget transparency and accountability in The Gambia. Some of our methods include paying visits to communities around the country and bringing stakeholders together, installing billboards with key facts around town, motion pictures and one-page citizens’ versions of the budget. We will be developing/co-opting more tech tools to increase accessibility and efficiency. The KYB projects are implemented with funding from our partners, the International Republican Institute through the US Embassy Banjul and have seen a steady rise in interest and budget scrutiny by the general public
