SANCUS - Vertical and Horizontal Accountability Action

We’ve been working with Transparency International under the Strengthening Accountability Among Civil Society Networks project - SANCUS to establish both vertical and horizontal accountability mechanisms for Fiscal Transparency, primarily through citizen engagement and lobbying. We’re also developing a parliamentary oversight tool. We’ve made great strides in bridging the communication gap between parliamentarians and their constituents and continue to hold successful community sensitization campaigns on the national budget. We also monitor the budget process to keep check that citizens' priorities are reflected. Our Parliament Liaison officer monitors National Assembly sittings on the Appropriation Bill and reports the outcome through the Parliamentary Hub, a public resource for parliament accountability. We've also been advocating for the National Assembly to be more assertive in their scrutiny of the Auditor General’s reports and implementing the recommendations.
