By expanding financial inclusion, individuals and businesses gain increased access to affordable and relevant financial products and services tailored to their needs. This access not only facilitates daily living but also enables families and enterprises to plan for the long term and effectively manage unforeseen emergencies. Mr. Lamin Dibba, Gambia Participates’ Economist, participated in a high-level panel during the World Bank's 2023 Economic Update on The Gambia on June 6, 2023, dissemination event. This event was part of the World Bank's efforts to inform and engage important institutions and stakeholders involved in strengthening The Gambia's economy. The discussions focused on recent macroeconomic developments, the outlook and risks, as well as the opportunities and challenges for financial inclusion and digitization. Mr. Dibba actively participated in these discussions and raised a crucial point regarding the country's economic growth. He highlighted that The Gambian economy is not sustainable as it heavily relies on foreign countries for its sustenance. This reliance has resulted in low economic growth and a high cost of living. However, Mr. Dibba expressed confidence in the country's potential to improve its economy and significantly reduce the cost of living, ultimately achieving a higher standard of living.
