The Gambia’s ongoing commitment to democratic governance underscores the need for a constitution that reflects the collective will of The
Gambian people and upholds the fundamental rights and freedoms of all, and embedding the principles of transparency, accountability and the
rule of law in the legal, economic and socio-political governance sof the country. The 2024 Draft Constitution is a good step by government to
revive the constitutional building process by Gazetting of the Bill for its ultimate presentation in the National Assembly. However, the process
also attracted wide criticism by CSOs and other relevant stakeholders for the perceived lack of a participatory, inclusive and consultative
approach.
